We refurbished this stunning Victorian flat with its impressive cornices - we restored the original floors and introduced a fresh and modern colour palette to create a blank canvas for the client’s collection of contemporary furniture and artwork.

Taking inspiration from the contour lines and the shape of the land - the contoured interior floors bring the outside inside and undulating lines alternate from the horizontal to the vertical and back. One of the most important aspects was not to touch the existing architecture but to embrace it and create an organic box within the existing architecture that stands at the heart of the building. Different levels are introduced that connect different levels by bridges and curvaceous staircases. Organic shapes complement the use of different textures, natural materials and fabrics in muted colours.
The other inspiration is hidden underground - gems and crystals. Their shapes and colours forming an underground bar, like a geode, with a starry ceiling covered in amethysts and crystals to create a luxurious space.
In naming the restaurant is a reference to two elements: the desire for experimenting or working in the kitchen, represented by the word ‘labora’ and the building’s former use as a church is represented by the word ‘ora’.
